How to Automate Pinterest Pin Creation with RSS Feeds
1 August 2024
Welcome to another Pinterest Pin Generator tutorial! Today, I’m excited to introduce a new feature: RSS Feeds. This tool enables you to automatically generate Pinterest pins whenever a new article appears in any connected RSS feed. Let’s dive into what RSS feeds are and how you can leverage this feature to streamline your Pinterest pin creation process.
What is an RSS Feed?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds are XML files that constantly update with new content from a website or e-commerce store. These feeds keep an up-to-date record of new articles in a structured format, making it easy for applications to fetch and display this data. By tapping into these feeds, we can create a reader that continuously checks for new information and then performs specific actions, like generating Pinterest pins.

Setting Up RSS Feeds in Pin Generator
- Connect Your RSS Feed:
- Go to the RSS Feeds section in Pin Generator menu and click on the new “RSS Feeds” button.
- Enter the URL of your RSS feed. The tool will then check the URL and provide a preview of the pins that will be generated from the feed’s articles.
- RSS Feed requirement
- The RSS feed needs to be an XML file according to the XML RSS standard
- Each item in the feed should have a title, description, link, pubDate and images
- Images can be in the following locations:
- [“content:encoded”]
- [“media:content”]
- [“image”]
- [“media:thumbnail”]
- [“enclosure”] with type “xxx/image”
- Design Settings:
- The design settings for the pins are based on your current setup in Pin Generator. You can customize the appearance by selecting different templates and color palettes. For example, you can switch to a circular template and choose a vibrant color scheme to make your pins stand out.
- Save these design settings so that every pin generated from the RSS feed will follow this style. This ensures consistency in your Pinterest content without needing to adjust the design for each new article.
- Selecting Boards:
- Choose the Pinterest boards where you want the pins to be posted. You can select multiple boards, and the tool will handle the scheduling based on your preferences.
- Automation:
- Once everything is set up, the RSS feed will be checked periodically (approximately every hour) for new articles. When a new article is detected, a pin is generated and scheduled according to your settings.
- You can connect the same RSS feed multiple times if you want to use different designs or post to different boards.
Managing Your RSS Feeds
- View and Edit Design Settings:
- You can load and edit the design settings associated with each RSS feed. This allows you to make tweaks without starting from scratch.
- Delete RSS Feeds:
- If you no longer need an RSS feed, you can delete it to keep your Pin Generator account organized.
Example: Connecting a WordPress Blog
Let’s walk through an example using a WordPress blog. Here’s my blog about being a nomad, where all new posts are added to an RSS feed. In a typical WordPress setup, the feed URL follows the pattern website.com/feed. When you enter this URL into the Pin Generator, it will fetch the latest blog posts and generate pins accordingly. For instance, titles like “A Traveler’s Guide to Exploring Mexico City” and “Top Five Surfing Beaches” will automatically turn into visually appealing Pinterest pins.
Troubleshooting and Tips
- RSS Feed Standards:
- While most RSS feeds follow a standard XML format, some might differ slightly, like YouTube feeds. The general guide in Pin Generator provides an overview of the standard format to ensure compatibility.
- Monitoring and Feedback:
- As this feature is newly launched, there may be occasional issues. Feel free to report any problems, and I’ll be monitoring to ensure smooth operation.
By automating Pinterest pin creation through RSS feeds, you can save time and maintain a consistent posting schedule effortlessly. Enjoy exploring this new feature, and happy pinning!
Cheers!
Ollie
